Gahan’s Experience

Gahan went on the Krishnagiri Hill trek with his parents, his aunt, and his cousins Lakshiv and Dhyan. The trek was done in the evening, which made the weather pleasant and comfortable for climbing. Gahan trekked with ease along the rocky trail and enjoyed the climb with his cousins. As they reached higher points on the hill, they stopped to admire the views around them.

About the Trek

The Krishnagiri Hill trek is around 5 km round trip and includes rocky paths and gradual climbs. The trail is suitable for beginners and families, making it a good trek for children. Because the hill is located close to the town, it is a popular place for short hikes and evening treks. The higher points of the hill provide wide views of the surrounding landscape.

History and Interesting Facts

  • Historic Hill Fort: Krishnagiri Hill is known for the Krishnagiri Fort, which sits on top of the hill and has historical significance in the region.

  • Part of the Baramahal Region: The fort was one of the important hills in the Baramahal region, which consisted of twelve strategic forts protecting the area.

  • Mysore Kingdom Connection: The fort and surrounding hills were controlled by the Mysore rulers including Hyder Ali and Tipu Sultan, before coming under British rule during the Anglo–Mysore wars.

  • Strategic Location: Because of its height, the hill was used as a watch point to monitor movement across the region and protect nearby towns.

  • Beautiful Sunset Views: Today the hill is also popular among trekkers and locals who visit in the evening to enjoy panoramic views and sunsets over the Krishnagiri landscape.
